Brad Smith, Director of Bands

Mr. Smith is beginning his 21st year as a band director. He plays the Euphonium primarily, but he also spends a lot of time playing trombone, trumpet and french horn with his students in class. His bands have earned consistent Sweepstakes winners and his students go on to great high school band careers and even consider Music Education for a profession.  Mr. Smith is married to Misty (a band director and clarinet player) and has two children Kaylee (an 8th grade flute player) and Jake (he like Superheroes).  Mr. Smith’s main responsibilities are the Symphonic Band, the Concert Band, and the beginner brass classes. Mr. Smith is in demand as a clinician and a judge in North Texas and is currently serving as the Middle School Region Band Chairman for TMEA Region 24.  Mr. Smith is a member of TMEA, TBA, TMAA, and Kappa Kappa Psi.

Michelle J. Black, Assistant Director of Bands








Mrs. Black is in her 5th year as Assistant Director at Wester Middle School and 8th year as a band director.  Mrs. Black received her Bachelor’s in Music Education at Baylor University. After graduating, Mrs. Black taught in Austin for a while before returning to Frisco ISD (she student taught at Centennial HS and Clark MS in the spring of 2009) as an Assistant Band Director at in the Centennial High School cluster. Under her direction, her ensembles have received successful ratings as well as “Best in Class” awards at various music festivals.

Mrs. Black resides in McKinney with her husband, Paul, who is also a teacher. When not at school, she enjoys being active, reading, cooking and playing with Daisy, her dog.  Mrs. Black teaches and assists with both Concert Bands and teaches the beginning saxophone, oboe, bassoon, clarinet and flute classes.

Chad Wallace, Percussion Director

Mr. Wallace serves as Director of Percussion Studies for the Centennial High School Cluster. He coordinates all Percussion instruction and events at Centennial High School, Clark Middle School and Wester Middle School.

Mr. Wallace received his B.S. in Music Education from Austin Peay State University where he studied with David Steinquest. While at APSU he arranged and instructed for The Governor’s Own marching band and played set for the Jazz Band I and the Jazz Combo I. He is an active clinician, adjudicator, and performer throughout Texas and his native Tennessee. He holds professional memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society, and Phi Mu Alpha. Mr. Wallace is an educational endorser of Evans Drum Heads and Innovative Percussion. Mr. Wallace also writes and arranges percussion arrangements for many high schools and colleges throughout the United States. Mr. Wallace resides in Frisco with his wife, Robin.
